In a move that will undoubted

ing, Notre Dame announced Mo;

with NBC to have the Fighting 1

sively on that network.

erning television football contract
Recognizing TV as a threat to gal
receipts, the NCAA created a tel<
vision plan designed to spread th
wealth.
They guaranteed television aj
pearances to both large and sma

In 1984, the Supreme Coui
ruled that these regulatory prac
tiees violated the federal antitrus
laws, opening the door for th
CFA.
The implications were obvious
Beating a team on the field wasn'
enough. You now had to beat then
to the television revenues as well.
The immediate trend was towan
conferences signing on with syndi
cators to carry their fall schedule:
with every conference membe
guaranteed their share of th<
revenues.
And many of those conference
affiliated big-time schools joinet
their big-time independent counter
parts to negotiate TV deals ai
members of the CFA.

Virginia Tech found that out th<

feated by the Lady Gamecock:
72-47 at Frank McGuire Arena.
Hunt lead USC with a career
high 37 points and 16 rebounds

USC jumped out to an early 4-(
lead on Schonna Banner's 6-foo
jump hook. Virginia Tech re
sponded by reeling off 10 straighi
points to take their largest lead ol
the evening.
USC Head Coach Nancy Wilsor,
then called a timeout, and the Lad)
Gamecocks answered the challenge
by going on a 6-0 run. But, Virginia
Tech's Mary Beth Bergmann
sank a 3-pointer to put the visitors
up 13-10 with 7:14 remaining in
the half.
That's when Hunt decided she'd
seen enough.

USC travels to Cincinnatti Saturday
for a battle with the Bearcats.
