Council hel By ALLEN WEST Staff Writer Daisy Boatwala was newly arrived in America, unfamiliar with the language and customs, with her family and friends halfway around the world, when she fell and twisted her leg. In a strange land, even the simplest of tasks may become monumental undertakings and a painful injury might have left a bewildered newcomer with little hope. Established in 1965, the Columbia Council of Internationals has been working with USC's Byrnes International Center to match up local families with international students. "Students do not live with host families, but rather they provide support during their first year, a period of adjustment, and add a change from campus life by including them in family activites," Lou Brooks, chairman of the host family committee, said. The council also receives loan money for student's emergency situations, helps students secure household appliances and coordinates various annual functions.
