Carolina Life 4 the gamecock Friday, November 17,1989 Fraternities to run relay from Clemson By WENDY BOGGS Staff Writer Two fraternities from USC and Clemson will push their rivalry aside this weekend when they run a football from Clemson to Williams-Brice Stadium in an effort to raise money for multiple sclerosis. At 6 p.m. today, members of Clemson's Sigma Nu fraternity will begin running a football to the town of Laurens. From there, members of USC's Delta Upsilon will take over and run the ball to Columbia and are expected to arrive around 11:30 a.m. tomorrow. Later, Delta Upsilon will run the ball from their hall to WilliamsBrice Stadium. The run is about 140 miles and is estimated to take about 18 hours to complete. "Delta Upsilon has handled most of the logistics," said Andy Bosman, Delta Upsilon's second vice president and a junior advertising/public relations major. The event requires the acquisition of a highway patrol escort and 4 _ 11 - - ! _ a ironey 10 transport iraiernuy members who are waiting to run and to pick up those who have finished. Each runner will have to run about two miles, then get back on the trolley as another runner takes over, Bosman said. Last year the runners averaged eight mph, but in planning the event, it was figured they would average 10 mph. Bosman said 35 members of Delta Upsilon have volunteered to run. This is the second year Delta Upsilon has done the annual Game Ball Run. "We are really looking forward to the run," Bosman said. To raise the money for the S.C. Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the members of both fraternities have been taking pledges and donations. Each frater nity is doing its fundraising separately and is hoping to raise $3,000 to $4,000 for their causes. Those interested in making donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society may do so by calling 799-7848 if they cannot make a pledge to the members of Delta Upsilon. I MINIMUM With EVERY donatio Blood.
