Omnivore up for yoi By SCOTT PRUDEN Staff Writer .I've seen lots of interesting and unusual things on the bumpers of cars, but it's usually bumper stickers that catch my attention more than deer carcasses or forgotten gas caps. Bumper stickers exnress narticu lar points of view without the person inside ever having to say a thing, which can often save some unneccessary conflict My favorite is "Meat is Murder," which not only makes me yak because it's the name of a Smiths album, but also because it means there's probably a vegetarian inside. Of course, it's usually quite ironic because I always seem to be chowing down on a Whopper at the same time these folks drive by. I've always wondered about the general vegetarian mindset. Some are animal rights folks who figure the animals have probably been mistreated and killed rather than fed a healthy, fattening diet, allowed to live a life of luxury in a nice pasture somewhere, and then killed. When you consider the way the cavemen did it, we're actually pretty darn civilized. They would round up the Thursday night hunting and gathering gang, set fire to a field and run a herd of buffalo off a cliff. That's a bit more applicable than calling your favorite omnivore a "flesh-eating animal murderer who should be taunted for all eternity by the spirits of the dead animals he has consumed". Don't you agree? Of course, vegetarianism isn't always a reflection on a person's attitudes otherwise. One of my best friends is a vegetarian who occasionally eats some seafood or chicken, and she's an extremely hip and keen person with a lot of other admirable qualities. There are folks who are out of hand, though. Said girl works for a professor who is a frugavore, which means he only eats fruit.
