Organizers were hoping for at least 50 to 60 students, coordinator of Women Student's Services Leigh Stanton said. The week will wrap up Thursday with a benefit concert featuring the Cartwrights at the Golden Spur in the Russell House. Lyn Phillips, executive director of ecock Rape Crisis Network, said the concert admission of $2 will provide much-needed funding for the center serving Richland and Lexington counties. "We decided to do just two events because this was the week before finals, and we knew students would be pretty busy," she said. Statistics indicate that one out of every four women will be raped sometime in meir lives, Stanton said. "We are trying to address more than safety issues and to look at some of the stereotypes and attitudes which encourage violence against women," Stanton said. Stanton said a second goal of the week is also to focus on the status of rape crisis services in the state of South Carolina. Phillips said there are 14 rape crisis centers in the state, and all are nonprofit. "We all need funding," she said. "There's a legislative push for more.
