Softball t< in weeken By GINGER TALLEY Staff writer Saturday must have seemed like Friday all over again to USC head softball coach Joyce Compton and U + lici icaiii. Compton's 13th-ranked Lady Gamecocks split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Lady Gamecock Field, losing 2-1 to the lOth-ranked Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech in the opener and defeating the Furman Lady Paladins 3-0 in the nightcap. Friday was much the same, as USC defeated Furman 4-2 while dropping a 5-2 decision to Louisiana Tech. Friday's loss to the Lady Techsters broke a nine-game Lady Gamecock winning streak. The Lady Gamecocks' only run in Saturday's first game was scored in the sixth inning when shortstop Marianne DiRupo singled in centerfielder Tricia Popowski. DiRupo and Popowski led USC at the plate, as they each went two for three.
