Ramsdale like 1 have a debt to the students who elected me. I plan to honor my commitments and give 200 percent to this job." Ramsdale emphasized the fact that students have a responsibility to let their elected officials know what they want and what they need. Current S.G. President James Franklin agreed. "Student activism is crucial if Student Government is going to work. The only way we can affect change is to talk to those we elect," he said. Responsibility and accessiblity are two key issues in Ramsdale's administration. To further her accessibility, she will continue the open door policy for her and her staff. An S.G. Open House is planned for March 22 so students can come out and meet people in Student Government. A list of her administration's goals for the year will also be available for the students. Ramsdale is a Soviet studies junior and is minoring in women's studies. She aspires to be a public prosecutor or a lobbyist for women and children's concerns. She also works as a volunteer for a rape crisis center. Several changes have entered Ramsdale's daily routine now that she is president. "I haven't had a lot of sleep, and I don't expect I'll get any. I'm also cutting back on my work at the law firm because my first priority is to do what I can for Student Government," Ramsdale said. The only thing that might suffer, she says, is her social life. Ramsdale's main goals for the future are keeping the cost of education down, installing vandal-proof call boxes in garages, continuing such progressive actions of the Franklin administration as the book exchange program and pushing for a voting >d from page 1 Leary said. "We have come a long way, but we still have a way to go." Another issue Leary will put high on his agenda is academic integrity. Establishing a voting member on the Board of Trustees has been an issue for several years, but Ramsdale feels that although it will be an uphill battle, they're prepared. "The time has come for full recognition. They need to give us a vote and not just a voice," she said. Franklin believes Ramsdale will have a smooth transition and continue the progress here at the university. "I'm pleased that she'll be representing me," he said. The inauguration will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Rutledge Chapel. Everyone is welcome, and a reception will be held afterward. < "It's time to move on," Franklin says.
