UB40 is on tour in support of their most recent album, titled UB40. mw&k. ' i UB40 came into the spotlight with its last album, Labour of Love, which contained the hit single, "Red m ^^ne-" That particular single hit number one in 12 countries when the album was released five years ago. The album and the single were, J7^^BLgAj|jjgj^^B however, both relatively unsuccessful Jt) in the States until last May when J. J. .V, B^Ep^^B^^B Morgan, a deejay at KKFR-FM in Mm ^^^B ^^B Phoenix, Ariz., played the song. By mm B ^B the next day, "Red Red Wine" had ? ? ^B ^B become the station's most requested MB ^B M tune. The alcohol-promoting reggae fff B song soon became a hit across the '^L JB country, and UB40 was thrust into 9? ,-IB IB yet another number one slot. 1 -7g |H UB40 is made up of eight members who have known each other since lajjF \ their childhood in Birmingham, fl I 1 England. In their earlier days, the 4m ) eight boys rehearsed religiously tryJ ing to think of a master plan to conquer the world, and practiced their signatures for the awaited day they would be asked for autographs. Long hours of hard work and practice have -J brought about the band's own island sound, often accompanied by political and passionate lyrics.
