Parking (JSC, stop denying problem exists and get to work on it The Gamecock ran an article Monday clearly outlining the ad ministration's view of the parking problem. According to numerous administrators who work fo Facilities Planning, Parking and Vehicle Registration Service: and the Shuttle Cock system, there's no problem. J VIVMUIVW V* wxiVVil vv OI^U KJI I cut! u when they were assured that the problems they have been ex periencing all year long have just been figments of theii imaginations. Students who live in the Horseshoe and Capstone areas hav< been unable to find parking spaces at night at the Pit or Pendleton Street for years. But now, thanks to the work that i: being done there ? work that will add about 25 spaces when th< paving is completed ? students have lost the majority of space' in that lot. But that's not a problem. They can park down at the coliseum lots. Or in the Bates lots. Or in the Cliff Apartment lots. Don't worry about another dangerous walk students will have to make if they avoid the Bates ramp. No problem. Don't worry what the students in Bates and Bates West and Cliff have to say about that. If they lose spaces they can go down to the coliseum. Of course, it's a dangerous walk back from the coliseum lots at night, and having all these resident students park there helps ruin the lot's effectiveness as a commuter area. But again, that's not a problem. See, the university is telling us that we students aren't looking hard enough to find the spaces that are there. See, it's our laziness that's the problem. There are loads of spaces; everything understood? Except there have also been complaints from faculty and staff members saying they too have been having a hard time finding parking spaces. So are they being lazy too? Or do they too find it a problem to nave 10 go to tne Styx to park and then have to wait for a Shuttle Cock that will definitely be late, most probably take more than a half hour to show up, and then, if it's a peak period, it might be so full of people you still can't get on? So what's going on here? Is there a parking problem at USC? Definitely no, according to the university. Definitely yes, according to the students, and some faculty and staff. Who do you believe? Well, it occurs to us that members of the administration have spaces reserved for them. So is there a parking problem? Not as far as they can see. The students having been compaining about parking problems for years now, but this year it has gotten out of hand. Wake up guys. We have enough problems with parking at USC already. We shouldn't have to be spending so much time just trying to convince the administration that there is a problem. It is time for the administration to take off its rose-colored glasses, to use a cliche, and see the problems that do exist. To say there's no parking problem at USC is to deny reality. Wednesday c - u I've always been into films, so here's a few, filmrelated tidbits to break up your Wednesday afternoon. A source close to this columnist tells The Gamecock that Robbie Benson was at the Timothy Leary show, disguised as some kind of hippie with a wig and sunglasses. Our source, who shall remain nameless, tells us Benson stood right next to our source, and our source says it definitely was USC's film guy. I'm not sure if it's true our not, but it sounds interesting, and I've never had reason to doubt this particular source before. I tried to raise Benson on the rap-rod (telephone to all of you unhip folks), but there was no answer. So how 'bout dropping us a line, Mr. Benson, and telling the readers if you were at Leary, and what you thought of him?
