As part of Homecoming '88, Go for the Garnet, al] students are invited to participate in the Homecoming Olympics. A variety of individual and team events, sports and games will be offered with something for everyone ? from true tests of your athletic skills to the zany and ever bizarre. Play begins Sept. 26 as homecoming week kicks off. Entry forms will be available at the Solomon Blatt P.E, Center. If you have questions or ideas, call Campus Recreation at 777-5261. Crowning a new Queen Can't have homecoming without crowning a queen, right? The traditional queen competition begins soon ? deadline for entry is 5 p.m., Sept. 9. The entry form and $20 fee must be delivered to the Campus Activities Centei in the lower level of the Russell House west wing. Candidates must be single, full-time students and musl have completed a minimum of 12 hours by the beginning of the fall semester. The required minimum average grade point ratio is 2.25. So what exactly does the homecoming queen do, yoi ask? The duties of the queen and court are many anc varied. The court must attend events during homecoming week such as Cockfest and half-time rehearsals and par ticipate in half-time festivities. The elected queen must b< present at next year's homecoming to crown the nev queen. She will be asked to participate in other program: representing the university and the community. Candidates and sponsoring organizations can direci their questions to Homecoming Queen Chairmai Stephanie LaBella or Terri Marshall at 777-5780. Well, there will be a 1 homecoming cookout from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 28 i on the Russell House Patio. Cash or cash card will be act cepted. Leigh Ann Jordan is in charge of cookout plans. Call her with questions or suggestions at 777-5870. Music will be provided by Columbia's own Jim t LeBlanc, whose repertoire includes tunes from the '60s i and '70s as well as popular folk songs. And we haven't even mentioned Cockfest yet. The Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity's 18th Annual Homecoming Pep Rally, better known as Cockfest, will include performances by the marching band and cheerleaders, a fireworks extravaganza, and Coach Joe Morrison and the football team's seniors. Can't forget the skit competition, either. Help your organization prepare a five- to sevenminute skit relating to the Go for the Garnet theme. Post-game (Victory!) dance Homecoming dance will take place after the game, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 10 in the Russell House Ballroom. Plair, a dance band, will jam until 12:30 a.m. and free munchies will be provided all night long. Students must bring their (JSC ID cards and present them at the door. One non-student guest may be admitted with each ID card. Dance chairman is April Eastman. So much to do! And the deadlines and stuff are all creeping up on you.
