Revolutionary War battle site. Deadline to sign up is Sept. 1. Fee is $10 for
members, $15 for non-members.
Sept. 15-Performance by "Scartaglan," an Irish group playing fiddle, banjo,
bagpipe and bodhram. 12:30 p.m., Russell House Plaza. Free.
Through Sept. 25--"Coverlets: New Threads in Old Patterns," an exhibit
of quilts and coverlets.
Through Oct. 2--"Graphics by Manuel Bennett," an exhibit of works by an
American artist living in Mexico.
Through Nov. 20-"Anna K. Singley: Earth, Minerals and Art," an exhibition
of abstract paintings of rocks and minerals.
Through 1988--"Those Amazing Men and Their Flying Machines,"
Movietonews footage of aviation.
Through 1988?"Above the Fall Line: Folk Art of the Southern
Piedmont."
McKissick exhibits are free. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
Sept. 18-September Concerts Series: USC faculty performance of works by
C.P.E. Bach, Hummell and Chausson. 4 p.m., Gambrell Hall Auditorium.
Series tickets are $15 for five concerts. Individual tickets are $4 at the door.
Sept. 20-September Concerts: USC faculty performance of works by J.S.
Bach, Poulenc, Schubert and Liszt. 8 p.m., Gambrell Hall Auditorium. $4 at
the door or $15 for series tickets.

Actor, writer and director Robby
Benson has been named artist-inresidence
at USC for the 1988-89
academic year.
As part of USC's Year of the
Arts celebration, Benson will teach
a year-long course on film-making.
"This is an exceptional opportunity
for students to work with so
iiicuiic wnu s aireauy esiaonsneu in
the film industry," said Dr. C.R.
Brasington, chairman of USC's
media arts department.
"This should open doors into the
industry that have never before
been open to USC students."
During the fall, Benson will
teach students how a movie set
operates during production.
Students will write, edit and shoot a
series of scenes and also will get the
chance to act and direct.
The spring session will be
devoted to making a feature film,
"Modern Love," written by Benson.
A commercial production
company will be in Columbia, and

Son," "Tribute," "Running
Brave" and "Ice Castles."
But it was the movie "One on
One" that brought Benson real
recognition.
