"We have collected thousands of I.D.'s and we are p* presently trying to tram clerks to check l.D. s more closely, so they can catch people with fake I.D's," Reed said. The highway department is also using a new camera phone that supplies a file picture of a person when a new drivers license is requested. This new device will allow the highway department to check the identity of suspected violators before issuing a drivers license. As of June the fine for applying for a driver's license under someone else's name, or lending a'driver's license to intentionally violate the law, has increased from $100 to $200 or 30 days in jail. If someone alters a driver's license by taking the lamination off and changing the date or picture, they may be fined up to $2,500 and/or imprisonment for 6 months. Anyone who is caught assisting someone in violating the law, such as supplying documents for a fake I.D., can receive the same penalty as the person in possession of the l.D. mi "I advise people not to use fake I.D.'s because it isn't th< worth it in the long run. A person may be charged for to forgery and lose their right to vote as well as other cai rights," Reed said.
