Clark said he needed the statue to determine to whom it rightfully belongs. Engineering and law students have alternately claimed ownership of the five-foot statue of a man holding a mug of beer since engineering students stole it from an Austin pub in 1908. The statue changed hands repeatedly until the early 1930s, when law students hid it from view until 1986.
