Wednesday, February 11, 1987 ^ ^ IT t S ^ Okav III pynls ? - m | f m * % ^0 VI It occurrcd to me the other day, in the form of a solid thrashing by the associate dean of the College of Journalism, the reason some people don't read sports is because they don't understand the terminology. He said, "Make it simple and explain." So I skulked back to my office, still smarting from the verI i ? oai oarrage, and decided I would try to explain a few of basketball's more elusive terms for the benefit of those who don't know what in the hell sports writers arc talking about. For those hard-core basketball fans out there who can diagram a box-and-one zone \ defense with the ease of writing a shopping list, this may be a 1 review, but read it anyway because it'll make my editor j happy. 1 Basketball has quite a few ; synonyms, all of which have i been used by sports writers I throughout the ages. They were probably developed from the i guuerai sounds oi primitive 1 tribes during the Mesozoic era. ; GOT M We urgently need people ! to aid In medical researcl i had mono within the pa? | qualify for $100 per wee time.
