Committee advises shorter sessions
A joint committee of the General Assembly today recommended
shortening its session by nearly two months and changing revenue
forecasting to avoid the shortfalls that have disrupted state agencies
in recent years.
The committee's preliminary proposals include eliminating the
state Budget and Control Board from the budget process. The
board consists of the governor, the state comptroller and treasurer
and the head of the financial committees in the House and Senate.

ly after Gov. Carroll Campbell
agreed to remove "Dixie" from
his inauguration program could
increase a long-time debate over
the use of Civil War-era
symbolism.
McConnell was reacting to
recommendations released Friday
by the commission following its
investigation of a racial hazing
incident this fall at The Citadel.

behind a burnt paper cross.
Among its recommendations,
the commission suggested The
Citadel find other ways of
displaying school spirit than using
"Dixie" and the Confederate
