By RONA SIMON HC Sports reporter History repeated itself this weekend as the Lady Gamecock ? volleyball team beat Florida and Pennsylvania for the second time .? in their last two meetings at the Florida Tournament in o? ?><??? "JH" Although USC was successful against the Lady Gators and the Lady Quakers, it lost to the Lady Owls of Rice. Carolina's record now stands at 17-7 overall and 3-1 in Metro Conference play. USC Head Coach Bonnie Kenny said she and the team realized there would not be an easy match ^during the tournament, saying they would all be tough. The Lady Gamecocks' first match pitted them against Pennsylvania. Carolina came away with the win in four games 15-10, 15-7, 10-15, 15-10. Because of scheduling conflicts, the match U -A A 1 1 ucyiui ai y p.m. ana lasted until nearly midnight. On Saturday, USC met Rice University. The Lady Owls, whose 1985 record was 6-25, beat the Lady Gamecocks 15-13, 4-15, 15-10, 15-2. "We never should have lost that match," said Kenny. "In the third game we were at 10-10 but folded at the end . . . There was no wind left in their sails." Carolina's final match was Saturday afternoon against Florida. USC won in straight games 15-6, 15-12, 18-16. Kenny said she wa:> pleased her Vteam was able to bounce back aner its loss to Kicc and come away with the win over Florida. (JSC plays its final home match of the season at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Georgia at the Sol Blatt P.E. Center. UGA and USC met earlier this season in the Carolina Classic, with The Lady Bulldogs coming away with the win.
