But the Massachusetts band Aerosmith doesn't fit that mold and has their own cult following as evidenced by the enthusiasm of Columbia fans June 8th at Carolina Coliseum. Aerosmith opened with "Rats In The Cellar" followed by "Same Old Song And Dance" and "Big Ten Inch". Lead vocalist Steve Tyler pranced over the stage and commanded his audience to keep the rhythm with applause. Tyler's sexy overtures and rough advances with hard and heavy song lyrics coaxed the crowd into participation with the band. The lighting also added to a strong stage show, particularly during Joe Ferry's lead guitar solo on "Sweet Emotion." A black keyboard with three lit I black candles on top was set up on stage platforms. Overhead whites, pinks, blues, purples, and reds showered Tyler as he played. Ted Nugent, Aerosmith's opening act, also gave a stunning I performance. Nugent wore a skin I tight black and grey running suit l_ with his bare chest exposed and r grey running shoes to match. He sang many crowd favorites like "Crazy Ladies," "Cat Scratch Fever," and "Stranglehold," an excellent display of his hard country rock music from the mid-70's.
