Fake IDs u; By KATHY LEWIS Senior reporter Drinking is not always the main reason for obtaining a fake identification card or driver's license, according to a USC student. "I got one so I could hang out with my friends who went to clubs," said the student, who didn't want to reveal his name. "If I wanted to go out drinking, I could get someone to buy it for me." Students usually ask around on campus to obtain fake IDs or to find someone to alter their driver's licenses, he said. "It can cost anywhere from $10 to $25." Different types of fake identification are available, the student said. Derek said his biggest profit was $250, which he made within one hour, but he usually only makes between S60 and $100 weekly because sometimes it takes two weeks to sell it all. Although the drug market is very big, Derek said he doesn't sell them to anyone he doesn't know because of the risk involved. He has about 25 customers who call him on a regular basis. "1 let people know if I'm going to get something in. They usually end up calling me," he said. "But they buy from other people ako " Most of his drugs come from North Carolina, Florida and Maryland. When the crops are plentiful, it is more difficult to sell. "Sometimes it comes in all at one time and everybody is selling it, so it is harder to get rid of," he said. During these times, he waits for the other dealers to sell all their drugs. "Once people get rid of all their stuff, then you can get rid of all your stuff," he said. "If you want to make money back fast and everybody is selling it for $35, you sell it for $30." "Other parts of the country get busted, and it slows down the process," he said. "Right now there is not much pot, so if 1 got it, 1 could get rid of it easily." Business is not as good during the summer months because it is not the prime growing time and connections for purchasing aren't good, he said. "A lot of growers will wait until November to harvest," he said. After he sells all his supply, Derek takes two or three weeks off and makes another purchase when he needs more money. He said he only wants to make enough money to pay for his expenses. ^Ipllinn A rnnr ~" V/VI1UI5 UIU5'1 3V.V.III9 IIKC AII easy thing to do because you don't have to work at it at all," he said. But "it is almost like it is too easy. That's what scares me." Because of the great risk involved, he said, "There's no way I would get other people into it. "I'm sure when summer comes around, I'm going to get a job," he said, referring to a job other than that of a drug dealer.
