Students ad By CHRIS MOULD Staff writer Students working for candidates in 1 Vinoctatk' gubernatorial campaigns do a lot moie than stuff envelopes and pass out buttons and bumper stickers, according to a campaign manager. "()t course they do a lot of that, loo. Hut ;ill of us do, including Phil," said Jane Monis, campaign manager for Democrat Phil I.ader. Students are essential to a successful campaign because they have the enthusiasm and energy to spread information about their candidate both on campus ;u\d at home, she said. "I can't tell you what a difference students really can make. I hey can carry ilie message further and louder than the general public." Testina nnssih g I By ED YOUNG Staff writer Students may soon be able to take exams and placement tests on their own vomputets, according to a plan begun by the Educational testing Service. I he cost of a personal computer cur rently ranges from $1,500 to $2,0(H) A student would be asked a question of minimum difficulty on the tests. If the Indent answers the question correctly, the computer will ask a more difficult one, and if lie answers the question incoi cctly, he will be asked an easier question. Computer placement tests are set up to help schools decide which courses students should lake.
