Northwestern athletic dirrrfnr
Doug Single, who signed the
veteran coach to a multi-year
contract, said Foster was capable
of doing a "Hindu rope trick" in
turning around basketball
programs.
"We believe we have the best
coach in America to put the Northwestern
program on solid foundation,"
Single said.
Foster, who attracted twins
Terry and Perry Dozier to USC,
said he will recruit heavily in th<j
Chicago area.
"We do believe in national
recruiting but there arc some
outstanding athletes in the
Chicago area and we want to
look very seriously at them," he
said. "We need some breaks in

In 26 seasons, Foster's teams
have compiled a 413-268 record.
He has coachcd at Bloomsburg
State, Rutgers, Utah and Duke.
Foster, 56, is the only coach in
NCAA history to win 20 or more
games at four different schools.
He accomplished this feat at
Rutgers, Utah, Duke and USC.
He achieved his greatest success
as head coach of the Blue
Devils by leading them to the
