With Carolina ahead from the opening tipoff,
Wilson was able to give her bench some muchneeded
playing experience.
Sophomore forward Peggy Glass came off the
bench to score all of her 14 points in the first half.
Laura Glass, Peggy's twin sister, picked up where
Peggy left off, scoring 10 of her 16 points in the second
half and pulling down 16 rebounds, 10 off the
offensive boards.
Sophomore Amy McAlister reached donhlo
figures as well with 10 points.
"I was glad that this was a relaxing game,
especially for our seniors, since it was their final
regular season home game," Wilson said. "I think
the game was a good opportunity for our four
players off the bench to play a lot. Laura and Peggy
did a good job on the boards and in scoring."
USC finished the Metro season in first place at
9-1 and received a bye in the first round of the
Metro Tournament, which will be held in Columbia
March 1-3.
The Lady Gamecocks will meet the winner of the
first round Virginia Tech-Southern Mississippi
game Sunday at 4 p.m.

Eighth-ranked
Tigers whip
USC 86-73
By JOHN BOYETTE
Sports editor
Eighth-ranked Memphis
State's superior inside and
transition games nroved 10 hp
too much for USC as the
Tigers blew out the
Gamecocks 86-73 Monday
night at Frank McGuire
Arena.
Memphis State had been
upset 82-80 by Florida State in
its previous outing but turned
an early deficit into a commanding
15-point lead at
halftime. From there, the
Tigers increased their lead to
20 points on two occasions
before the Gamecocks rallied
and cut the final margin to 13.
Keith James put USC on top
first by taking the opening tip
and driving for a layup.
Baskets by Michael Foster and
Terry Dozicr, whose return to
action was greeted by a standing
ovation, kept the
Gamecocks in the lead until
the 11:20 mark of the first
half. But from then things
went sour for Bill Foster's

USC was leading 19-15, but
a pair of baskets by point
guard Andre Turner and two
more scores by backcourt
mate Dwight Boyd put Memphis
State up by four. Linwood
Moye scored on a
jumper that brought the
Gamecocks to within two with
9:12 remaining, but that was
as close as USC would get.
Gamecock turnovers, coupled
with the Tigers' rapid transition
game, put USC behind
43-28 at the half.
