These channels have been disregarded in the distribution of Potential magazine. Q The university's policy is that only licensed student organizations or university departments, or outside groups sponsored by such, may distribute material on campus. We specifically address Potential's October-November issue, which is purportedly concerned with AIDS. While we do acknowledge the validity of certain features, notably the article "What We Don't Know About AIDS," the overall thrust of the magazine is housed in misstatements, misquotes, misrepresentations and distorted facts. For example,, the Center for Disease Control is quoted by Potential as saying that "preschool children with AIDS should not be put in school." In actualii ly, nas never issued sucn a statement, which goes against CDC's offirial and stated posi^ tion, that an such decisions should W lie with local authorities, taken on a case-by-case basis. Rogers Kirven, in his editorial, makes the erroneous statement that 4 percent of the population is homosexual. In actuality, all serious and complete studies arrive at the same conclusion, that 8 to 10 percent of the population is homosexual. 'Potential also makes the statement that "according to a Kinsey report, 90 percent of homosexuals don't think they were born 'that way.' " In addition to misquotes and false facts, Potential's AIDS issue includes many things of a misleading nature, the most glaring of which is an interview with Dr. Fred Sattler. Potential takes pains to establish Sattler's credibility, discussing his position as chairman of an AIDS committee at an unnamed, "major" 700-bed hospital, Potential goes on to discuss his religious beliefs concerning homosexuality. Dr. Sattler's medical background has no bearing on his moral or religious beliefs. Potential consistently refers to AIDS as a gay disease, disregarding the fact that, as shown in Belgrave, Fla., and in cases reported in Europe and Africa, AIDS is evenly distributed among homosexuals and heterosexuals. And, lastly, Potential describes AIDS as God's punishment to homosexuals for their immoral lifestyle. To quote Christian lecturer Jim McCotter: "The only true cure is to obey God and stop the lifestyle that spreads the disease."
