Offer effective Block-seating con proposals to athli By Donna Jenkins The controversy over stnr!#?nt nroanijatinn . v ~ vi fjuiii/.unuii uiuvrv seating at USC football games will be settled by April, according to the chairman of a special committee studying the issue. "It will be resolved the first week in April if not sooner," Rodney Brown, chairman of Student Government's block-seating committee said. The nine-member committee presented four proposals to the athletic department, which will make the final decision on the matter. The proposals suggest section rotating, obtaining north endzone seats and variations of the two. "Nothing is definite," Brown said. There have been problems between the athletic department and the committee. "I hate to talk bad about (the athletic department), but they have been somewhat less than cordial ? almost disinterested," he said. "They're not tied to accept anything." The committee began working in late January to solve the conflict hptwppn orpotc <*nA .-.^.1 ?? DIWIXJ wuu uun-gltCKa UVCI block seating sections at football games. The conflict surfaced last September when USC sophomore David Burroughs questioned the right of greeks to always receive the better sections. "It's an interesting dilemma," Brown said. The greeks have had sections 17 and 18 in the stadium's lower deck since they first petitioned for them in the mid-1960s, he said. About 10 years later, I HEY, SPOI I i Dn vmi like fnnthall? ? Last semester, Burroughs went to Oscar Prioleu, SG vice president and Senate president. "David asked Oscar to look at the problem more in-depth," Brown said. Prioleau decided to create a student task force to evaluate the situation and develop a proposal for the atheletic department. "I see myself as a mediator," he said. Three ACO committee members, three independent organization members and three greek representatives make up the committee. "Oscar did a good job in getting a cross-section of students," Brown said. He said he believes every student is represented by the variety of committee members. The committee has greeks from Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Association and the Pan-hellenic Council. David Burroughs is one of the three independent committee members, representing religious organizations. The Residence Hall Assorinrinn ?nH tu* Law Center also represent independents. The Law Center was selected because it has the largest average of IDs turned in for block seating, Brown said. The block-seating committee meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays in the SG office. rtsTanTI Basketball?
