USC singing grot several Inaugural Cr.m Cull iiuiii oiaii nc|juho Carolina Alive, the University of South Carolina's pop singing group, will entertain during several events associated with the presidential inauguration of Ronald Reagan in Washington, D.C., Jan. 18-21. The USC musical group is one of six ensembles chosen from different regions of the country to participate in the inaugural activities, according to Dr. Richard Conant, associate professor in USC's School of Music and director of Carolina Alive. Republican Sen. Strom Thurmond was instrumental in inviting the USC group to participate in the ceremonies, Conant said. Carolina Alive's 50 members will perform at 10 a.m. Jan. 21 in the Senate Rotunda for legislators. After the president's inauguration at noon, the group will participate in the inaugural parade, which will begin at 2 p.m., then give a performance on the east steps of the Capitol around 4 p.m. The USC group also will entertain at the various inaugural balls Monday evening, then return to Columbia on Jan. 22. r 'Taming of the Shrew' Rehearsals will begin Jan. 22, and the play will be presented at USC's Longstreet Theatre March 22-24 and 27-31.
