"Many times, parents find themselves asking: Why did I buy that tov? I knew that it wouldn't last; where are all the small pieces?;wheream! going to put in now that is is assembled?." said Suzanne Stroman. chairman of the department of family studies in the College of Applied Professional Sciences at USC. A variety of toys on different developmental levels help challenge children, yet help them meet with success and have the feeling of achievement. Consider the child's age and attention span. Children have special needs and interests at various developmental levels, and this must be considered in selecting equipment to help them expand their understanding of the surrounding environment. Look for versatility of use. Can the toy be used inside and outside? Docs the tov serve several different nurnoses? Does it involve the child in active play? Does it stimulate the child to express himself, his imagination and create his own level? Can the child enjoy manipulation of the toy? "Good toys encourage cooperative play and development of a child physically, mentally, emotionally and intellectually," Stroman said. After these factors are considered and the toys carefully selected, the box they toy came in will also provide hours of enjoyment for the child.
