THE GAMECOCK Sports October 31, 1984 - Page 19 use, Tigei by Joe Sitarz USC's men's basketball team puts its undefeated record on the line again tonight when they face the Clemson Tigers in the Frank McGuire Arena. The Gamecocks upped their record to 3-0 after defeating The Citadel Bulldogs Monday night 94-82. Both teams may be thinking of revenge against the opposing school. Carolina will be looking to end a three game losing streak against Clemson, while the Tigers may be trying to make up for the football team's loss to the Gamecock's earlier this year. THE TIGERS, 2-1 and coming off a victory over South Alabama in the IPTAY Tournament at Clemson, will be led by senior guard Vince Hamilton. Hamilton scored 21 points and had 18 rebounds against South Alabama. The trip to Columbia to play USC will be the first away game for the Tigers under new head coach Cliff Ellis. Last vear Clemson beat the Gamecocks in both their meetings. The Tigers won the first game in Columbia, 72-71, and at Clemson, 61-59 in overtime. The televised game between the Gamecocks and the Tigers will start at 8 p.m. The game follows the match-up between the Lady Gamecocks and the Lady Tigers. IN MONDAY night's contest, Carolina downed the 4-0 Bulldogs 94-82 in a fast paced ball game. USC head basketball coach Bill Foster said, "That was a heck of a game. I'll tell you what ? it was a fan's game." Head coach Les Robinson of the losing Bulldogs said, "This is what college basketball is all about." USC guard Keith James hit an 18-footer to give Carolina a 2-0 advantage. Two quick baskets by senior guard A1 Sheppard gave the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead. The Citadel maintained their lead until James sunk a 12-foot, fallaway baseline jumper to tie the game at 31. Moye led the Gamecocks in scoring, followed by Brittain and James with 19 and 17, respectively. Regan Truesdale of The Citadel led all scorers for the game with 22 points. ODDLY ENOUGH, Truesdale had his worst game of the season," Robinson said. "I guess when you are used to 74 percent from the floor, 50 percent sure does make a big difference. I am going to have to not be spoiled as much." Foster praised Truesdale and the whole Citadel team. "Regan Truesdale is really an outstanding player, but he also has a great supporting cast. "YOU HAVE to give Citadel credit, they're a real tough team," he said. The Citadel tied the game several times but never could mount a drive to gain the lead. A ten point margin kept the Gamecocks out of reach for the rest of the game. The Bulldogs tried to make it close with outside shots, but to no avail. It was the second game in a row that Foster had kind words for the play of Mike Brittain. He said Brittain had "maybe the best second half that he's played since he's been here.
