With their latest album, the soundtrack from the film "Eddie and the Cruisers," at number 10 on the billboard album chart, this concert I should be one of the best to hit USC's B I campus. 1 There really never has been a similar I chain of events in the annals of I popular music. Playing in a Top 40 cover band, Cafferty and Kenny Jo Silva wanted to perform older rock and roll songs ;they got a batch of friends--all band leaders in their own right-and started Beaver Brown. Their reportoire was long on Wilson Pickett and Fats Domino, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley and Mitch Ryder. "We Linrl r?f mnH^lpfl r\nrtplvpc after the energy of the J. Geils Band," Cafferty said. "Every song was about 90 miles an hour. For the first three years we were together, I don't think we even knew a slow song." A IN IMMEDIATE hit with the college kids in Naragansett, the band shared a nine-bedroom house by the beach and slowly widened their iLi i in.)i y. "We played every bar we could play in Rhode Island for a long time," Cafferty said. "Then we branched out to Cape Cod and Boston, and basically just stayed around that area for four years. Finally, we got a job in New Haven, Connecticut. Somebody saw us there and said, 'Hey, you should play in Asbury Park, because they've got bands doing the same stuff you do.' From New Jersey we went to New York, then Philidelphia, Maryland and Virginia." When the film "Eddie And The Cruisers" broke on cable television this past summer, the Beaver Brown Band was suddenly successful. Within one week of its July 7 HBO launching, the movie exposure had generated sales for 23,000 additional soundtracks. ~?JLm 3R*"M*T2E J \ ' ~~^&ZZZ*:?&z4_ ^ \ A C/ LOCALLY OWNED J C s^l A OPERATED^ 'Clwge accounts tor your ( _ convenience 01 C./..!!.,.! 1* k-... g i?v.tircin ic)jaii3 L** IIUUI chain repair J "layaways no extra charge FREE C0KES(" 256 0301 PIZZA EXP 256-0301 907 Blossom St. in 5 Points near Campus 782-9826 Jackson Blvd. PIZZA AN EXPRESS PIZZ' 2560301 1907 Blossom St. 256 0301 xciting shows uy August z/,iv84, tne ivbj sales had become 500,000 and counting.
