The University of Florida, accused of more than 100 rules violations in football, concluded two days of closed-door testimony Saturday before the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Infractions Committee. Marshall Criser, who took over as Florida president on Sept. 1, issued a brief statement praising the NCAA staff and Infractions Committee for their "courteous, patient and professional conduct of the hearing." The Infractions Committee was to decide a resolution ot the case, which has drawn wiae interest throughout the Southeastern United States, later Saturday. The Gators, facing a possible ban on television and postseason appearances as well as loss of revenue and scholarships, could learn their fate as early as this week. Fireants ?ontmueiHr^^ sophomore running back Julius Grantham. USC worked on stopping the run, and "shut it down fairly well," Vogel said. USC'S PASS defense was helped by scouting reports that allowed the Gamecocks to "work against Duke's patterns all week," said defensive back Chris Major. Vogel added some pass defense was sacrificed to stop the run. "On backdoor and weakside nasses. we might have been hurt," he said. "But we decided to take a chance in order to shut some other things down." Duke's running attack was stopped cold. Grantham rushed for a net 30 yards on 10 carries in the first half before leaving the game with damaged knee ligaments. JL Ik. Fired head football Coach Charley Pell and assistant coaches Joe Kines and Dwight Adams were joined by other university officials in more than 11 hours of testimony on Friday. The NCAA's initial accusations included 107 allegations of wrong-doing, ranging from recruiting violations to spying on opponents. Criser has offered to forfeit six Gator victories in connection with the spying rharopc The NCAA's power to ban television appearances is currently in legal limbo because of the U.S. Supreme Court decision this summer striking down the association's exclusive controls of football telecasts. Tailback Mike Peacock managed 36 yards on six carries replacing Grantham in the second half.
