'Supergroup's' offers fast pac By Art Boerke What do you get when you take two former members of Blondie, the guitar player from the legendary British punk band the Sex Pistols, a well-known and experienced vocalist and combine them with the son of comedian Soupy Sales? They are called Chequered Past. As a rule, these 'supergroups,' made of popular and outstanding professionals are not successful, but Chequered Past is an interesting exception well worth some attention. The band's debut album was released last month amidst speculation over what they might produce. The nine tracks on the record have a variety of styles, ranging from biting, metallic rock to mellow acoustic ballads. There's even a cover version of Waylon Jennings' " \re You Sure Hank Done It This Way?" The album kicks off with the only heavy rock tune, "A World Gone Wild." Dual guitar rift's from guitarists Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols and Tony Fox Sales lead up to tense moments in this powerful song. "Let Me Rock" is a disappointment. Too slow, the song is definitely one of the weakest on the release. ft *2 \ ?^ . '. . #>" ? ^ ''jit Studei Work Simply.
