The meters in the lot between the Russell House and the reflection pond have changed from a five-hour limit to halfhour and hour limits. The change came because the lot has not been achieving enough turnover, Vice President of Student Affairs Dennis | Pruitt said. | SOME STAJFF members and commuting students were parking in the lot all day and only had to feed the meters ^ twice, which was a disadvantage to anyone wanting to stop at Russell House for a short while, Pruitt said. Better turnover may reduce illegal parking in handicapped spaces, as well as prevent double and triple parking on busy days, he added. Pruitt said many of the 'campers' are employees. One day, seven cars with employee stickers were in the lot, he said. More turnover will better service commuter students and i guests by giving them quick access to the student union, he t said. A study several years ago showed that 20,000 people went through the Russell House each day. The convenience shops scheduled to open in the basement next month may in- ] crease that number. Concern about commuter students was a factor in the change, he said. "WE HAVE- only six to seven thousand resident students. Spaces along the wall of the Russell House have half-hour meters except for three handicapped spaces, which are unmetered. The others have hour meters. Tickets are handed out until 6 p.m., however the time may be extended after the shops open, Pruitt said.
