Carolina fell to 11-7.
With the Lady Gamecocks trailing by one with 12:37 to go
in the first half, a 5-foot jumper by Marsi McAlister put
Carolina ahead 16-15.
THE GAMECOCKS then pulled away from Tennessee to
attain a 38-28 lead with40seconds remaining in the half. The
Lady Volunteers however, cut the lead to eight. The halftime
score was USC 38, Tennessee 30.
The Gamecocks needed more than eight points to ward off a

Carolina then came back as the Lady Gamecocks pulled
within two points of Tennessee three times in the last twe

THE LAST time, with 0:21 remaining, 6-3 center Sharor

With many of the 878 people in attendance on their feet
Gilmore missed the free throw. Tennessee got the rebound
but 6-2 forward Renee Najarian produced a jump bal
situation.
Tennessee recovered the jump ball, and the Lady Vols wen
on to make three of four free throws and win the contest.
USC coach Terry Kelly said he was disappointed with th
loss, but was "super proud of our players coming back th
way they did."
