Alford said she has heard this for the past three years and does not know whether it should be called a budget deficit or not. She said it is something that happened in the past for which current residents are paying. Smart said he is sure a lack of supervision played a part in the deficit. There was a lot of turnover with the professional staff and as a result, no one really knew who should have been monitoring the budget. However, Smart said certain actions have been taken to prevent such a thing from happening again. The department is better staffed now. Smart said "very few major screw ups" occur with Resident Student Programs and hopefully the quality of the administration of government will continue. Residents are selected for Nada through an application process. The three buildings house 60 students who are selected for being "highly motivated."
