More than 600 people streamed into the only i] theater in this rural town Tuesday for an exclusive preview of [] "Chiefs," the television mini-series that made history in this I sleepy community this summer. jj "This is a great day for the town of Chester," City Ad- . ministrator Carlisle Roddey told the packed audience before ij the film began rolling. 1 j "Chiefs" is a three-Dart CBS series fil mpH in anH M Columbia by Highgate Pictures between May 23 and July 30. Roddey said the summer "shook this sleepy town up in a nice way." The series was shown Sunday in Los Angeles and earlier this month in New York to the cast, film dignitaries and others involved in the production. But, Roddey told his Chester neighbors, producer John Quill "felt y'all should have the opportunity to see it before it got out in the world." The film will be aired Nov. 13, 15 and 16. Many in the audience had previewed the movie's scenes ; several limes before on the set. Oohs, ahs and applause filled the theater when their hilly downtown was panned before their eyes on the big screen. Charlton Heston as Delano banker Hugh Holmes, narrates the Storv. shown in four hours TiipwIav niohr wiih nr\ rv*mtn/>r_ cial interruptions. Based on Stuart Woods' first novel, "Chiefs" traces the lives of three sheriffs in the fictional Georgia town of Delano. It's the story of several unsolved murders that span their lives from 1919 to 1963. * Rodcey said the impact the "Chiefs"filming made on his town would be felt for a long time. It pumped more than the $3 million into the economy. "It brought people together. It got people out of their homes to watch the film being made, who had not been out for years," Roddey said. He said the film has turned Chester into a tourist attraction, and the town has left standing several of the Styrofoam facades used in the film.
