Senate Finance Committee Chairman Conner Baker said nearly 90 campus organizations applied for a portion of the $78,314 available. A total of $75,771 was allocated by the nine-member committee. The bill no ^es to Student Government President Barry Gray for his roval. "I would judge that since the Finance Committee and the Senate approved the bill, the president will approve it," Baker said. WUSC-FM, WHICH received the biggest allocation ($9,950), will use the money to buy new equipment required by the FCC while the Sailing Club funding is for a new sailboat. Baker said. Because of the large number of students participating in Intramural Sports, the group received the third largest allocation. The funding will be used for extra equipment and a twomember paramedic team. "The last Senate voted against the funding for the paramedic team which is needed for safety purposes," Baker said. "They have it now." Approximately $152,000 was requested by campus organizations. The money allocated comes from student activity fees not allocated last spring, Baker said. ORGANIZATIONS ARE funded according to four merit ^iiuihics. in si piiuniy guts iu men wcic unfunded last semester. Second priority goes to groups that need the money for a one-time capital expenditure, Baker said. Honorariums are a third priority while events and tournaments sponsored by organizations is the final priority. AFRO received a large allocation because of the distinguished list of speakers that will be coming to USC on behalf of the club, Baker said.
