Book unveils '50 M From Staff Reports USC was well represented Monday as 23 of its graduates and several men associated with the university werp named among the 50 most eligible men in the Midlands. The Rod Shealy Publishing Company released the book, "The 50 Most Eligible Men in Columbia and the Midlands of' South Carolina" yesterday. Among those named were Ronald Bass, USC quarterback 1976-77; Bob Ailton, "The Voice of Gamecocks" and sports announcer for WNOK radio; Martin R. Weinrich, statistics professor in the USC School of Medicine; and Philip Babb. publisher of "Li'l Bird." Two students were named as future eligible bachelors, Scott Summers, accounting major and Rich Lamprey, media arts junior. The book is on sale at the Russell House Bookstore. THE SCOTS Guards and the Black Watch will be at Carolina Coliseum at 4 p.m. Oct. 9 in the first program of the six-event Carolina Concerts series. AUDITIONS FOR USC's production of "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" will be held Oct. 9 and 10 at the Benson School on Pickens Street. NBC dominated for the third straight year at Sunday's 35th annual television awards presentation and "HiB Street Bines" won its third straight Emmy as best drama series* compiling six awards to tie the ABC miniseries 4'The Thorn Birds" for the most Emmys. It was the most Emmys NBC had ever wonv but it failed to reach CBS* record of 44 in 1974. I NBC's critically acclaimed "Cheers," named best comedy series, won five awards. "Special Bulletin" took four awards and "St. Elsewhere" got three. Top-rated CBS won II and ABC took 14. Four others went to the Public Broadasting System and two to syndicated programs. NBC's total includes 12 craft awards announced before the telecast. The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' annual Emmys for prime-time programming were presented during a slow-moving show on NBC that lasted three hours and 20 minutes.
