Saga to operate
By Susan Muir
Two new Saga operated facilities,
Take Five in the Russell House, and
The Country Store in Capstone will
open this semester, director Carl
Chandler said.
Take Five will replace Union Station
next to the Gamecock Snack Bar
and will offer a wider variety of
foods.
"It's not a candy store any more,"
Chandler said.
THE STAND is scheduled to open
the first week of October. Chandler
said because the decision to open it
came late in July, Saga is waiting for

Take Five will feature baked goods
such as bagels, doughnuts, rolls, and
later ham and cheese croissants, and
the Harmony health snacks, which
Winn Dixie and Kroger Sav-On
carry.
Nachos, soft drinks and popcorn
will also be carried.
Saga plans to provide personalized
cakes for special occasions available
by advanced ordering.
THE HEALTH food line takes
the place of Nature's Cove which was
located between the Gamecock Snack
Bar and the Golden Spur.
Nature's Cove's inconspicuous
location made it unprofitable, and
Saga decided not to open it this year,
Chandler said, adding the stand
didn't take in more than $100 a day
this past year.
Take Five will he open from 8 a.m.

USC searching to fill
Student Affairs posts
By David Hill
USC is searching nationwide for a new dean of student affairs,
and plans to fill other Division of Student Affairs positions
vacated this summer.
Marsha Duncan resigned as dean of student affairs in early
June and Dennis Pruitt, former director of the Russell House
University Union, was named acting dean.
Pruitt said a search committee of administrators, faculty
and students has received a large number of applications for
what he calls "a very desirable job."

of Tom Shandley, who resigned in July to pursue a doctorate
degree in higher education administration at the University
of Minnesota.
Larry Zuleba, former RHUU division associate director for
I >iness, was named acting director of the RHUU.

begin work in January, he said.
"HE DIVISION of Student Affairs serves as a student advoe._.e
body, advises organizations and promotes development
of student life.
It oversees student activities, student development, international
services, resident student development, the Russell
House University Union and career planning and
development.
Duncan left to become vice president for student affairs at
Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. Lehigh reportedly offered
to double her salary.
She told the Gamecock that USC "is a better campus
than it ever has been. The quality of students has improved,
and it feels good to be a part of that and to contribute to it."
SHE SAID salaries in the division are not good. "We (the
staff) work on a psychic salary ? we love what we do."
Pruitt, 33, said he plans to apply for the permanent dean's
post.
is Chandler said because Saga has no experimental kitchen
and because it takes time to adjust to new facilities, the
tt biscuits are not perfect.
"WE WANT to continue to improve on what we're doing.
We do so many things on this campus now ? there's not a
ns whole lot of things in the v/orld we don't have. We have fast
>n food, Mexican and pizza," Chandler said, adding it's been
predicted Chinese and Oriental foods will be the next food
lines to become popular.
