Decision still Dendina I in handicapped case By David Hill No decision has been reached in a lawsuit brought against UbC officials by a handicapped former USC student who said he was denied access to their campus because of poor enforcement of campus parking laws. Wayne Cockfield, whose legs were amputated because of injuries sustained in Vietnam, filed the suit in U.S. District Court May 18, 1982. # He contends that cars illegally parked in parking spaces reserved for the handicapped made it difficult for him to attend classes, and poor enforcement of parking rules by usl; ponce worsened the problem. "All I ever wanted is for them to enforce the law," Cockfield said. The university's legal department said the case is in litigation. Wilburn Brewer, USC's attorney, and Gloria Day, Cockfield's attornev. said onlv that the case is still in court. The case claims the parking problem is a violation of ^ Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, which provides " that any institution receiving federal funds must be accessible to the handicapped. Named in the suit are USC Presi dent James Holderman, Systems Vice President for Law Enforcement and Safety Carl Stokes, USC Police Chief Kenneth Pereira and members of the USC board of trustees. Cockfield said he withdrew from USC after he missed several classes because he could not find a parking place. n"I miiniiil " nino A | oec i_awaim, ^ | II mmm A great way of life. ^ CongicxtuLctt I to tfiE " ujinnEt? ^Lin.i(j?Z?Ltu ^UzL t*J I^T^LlSctoiif ^J-*(^oto don.t iltll jj 1st Place ($75.00) Rich, B 2nd Place ($50.00) Dam ail /-% * /tU ^ I? r?/\v i"*v IP 3rd Jfiace u am $ ; All entries may be viewet ill r?aco R 11 H misu> 2nd F ISfcg? ^ ^ We would like to thank ?
