SOUTH CAROLINA'S economy appears to be recovering, according to a report published by USC's College of Business Administration auu me siaie employment Security Commission. Of 16 economic indicators monitored in South Carolina in February, eight improved and eight declined. "Such mediocre performance was not nnpv. pected given some of the substantial increases that occurred in January," the report said. The February figures compare with nine advances, six declines and one unchanged in January. "At this point, the state appears to be in the initial stage of a traditional economic recovery. More jobs are becoming available, and employ ment is beginning to pick up. The residential construction sector remains strong, and, hopefully, retail sales will continue to improve," the report said. "In general, the February statistics, though mixed overall, do represent continued improvement in the state's economy."
