Russell House T ' rare chance to s From Staff Reports "Cinderella," the timeless Walt Disney classic about the girl, the prince and the glass slipper, has long been a favorite of adults as well as children. Like "The Wizard of Oz" and others, the film never fails to attract "grown-up kids" who want to see it * again. USC students who might take the opportunity to see "Cinderella" again after all those years will get a rare chance tomorrow ? because after June 30, they'll have to wait about six years for another chance. "Cinderella" will play at Russell House Theatre tomorrow at 2:30,7 and 9:30 p.m. CHUCK CROMER, a USC graduate in pharffp of nnn-thDQtrinol f i wa aavkk V?*\/UVI 1VOVUI C 1 Ail 11 Iff/ distribution at Walt Disney Productions, recently explained the highly effective marketing strategy the company uses to distribute its classic animated features. The movies are distributed for one year in theaters, followed by another year in noncommercial locations ? college and revival theaters that show old movies. After that, the films are pulled from circulation and are not shown anywhere, not even on television, for about six years. Don't be confus * ^^^eUhiuersi! I ' ' PH< 1^^ l. i ne contest is ope 2. ACCORDING TO Cromer, many people are as interested in seeing fairy tales on the screen as they are in reading them. "Cinderella" was first released in 1950, and Cromer said the film is still a "really big hit" today. Other Disney animated classics ? "Alice in Wonderland," "Sleeping Beauty," "Peter Pan" and "Bambi" ? have enjoyed similar reception. After Walt Disney released his first feature-length animated movie, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," he found the public loved the cartoon-style stories. Disney went on to become an international legend in the field of animation. Cromer said the films remain popular because the stories are "timeless," and because the animation is very sophisticated. He said colleges are booking "Cinderella" every day. Admission is $1 for the 2:30 p.m. showing anH tl VI fnr fVio 7 onH Q on n m phnininrtn M?1M YA.w&Vi HIV ? U1IU t/.uv p.m. OHUVVlllgd.
