Exchange prog From Staff R eports The USC/Kent Exchange Program is accepting applications from students who wish to spend the 1983-84 academic year studying at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. The program is open to students enrolled in any four-year baccalaureate program within USC's ninp^amniie cvctom uaav VMUl^/UU UJtJbVllli Individual courses of study are arranged for each of the five students selected based on the students' major or professional degree and the ability of the Kent curriculum to accommodate them. To be eligible, a USC student must have completed 60 hours of work, including his college's general education requirements. There is no specific grade point requirement, and an interview is required of all finalists. Students are assured housing in college residence halls at the English university. Applications are available from the Institute of International Studies in Gambrell Hall. The 19-year-old sophomore was waiting for the elevator in the southwest stairwell of the dorm's basement floor about 10:25 p.m. when iU 1 J uie ruuuery uccurreu. According to the report, the suspect grabbed her from behind and jerked her purse from under her arm. He ran out through the Blossom Street side of the dorm. The suspect was described as a short-haired black male of medium build. He was wearing a yellow sweatshirt and blue jeans. She is offering a $50 reward for the return of her belongings. In an unrelated matter, David Jennings of 5116 Ridge wood Ave. in Columbia was arrested Wednesday for trespassing around the USC maintenance area, according to campus police reports. He was taken to the city jail and held there on the trespassing charge. According to police reports, Jennings had been arrested by USC police once before and had received two warnings ordering him to stay away from campus in December 1982. A METRIC WORKSHOP for elementary school teachers will be offered today by USC's Division of Continuing Education. The program, to be conducted from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Carolina Coliseum, will teach participants how to use the metric measurement system and present a brief history of its development and reasons for conversion. CAROL CARTZENDAFNER, a USC junior, recently qualified for competition in the National Individual Events Tournament in poetry interpretation by placing first or second in three speech tournaments. Cartzendafner's final qualification for the tournament was secured at the Saluki Forensics Tournament at Southern Illinois University, where she placed first in poetry interpretation. She will compete in the National Individual Events Tournament April 11-14 at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. She is the first USC student to qualify for such a tournament in several years. A FORUM for Columbia City Council and mayoral candidates will be held Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Logan School on Elmwood Avenue. The program format will be presented in two parts because of the large number of City Council candidates.
