It looked like the Gamec:"^, vvere going to have an easy win when Perrone Jones caught the opening kickof f two yards deep in the end zone and returned it for a touchdown. The 102-yard return was the longest in junior Varsity history. TMI, a ball-control team, cashed in on only one of several chances to score in the first half. Two missed field goals and a fumble left the opponent with a 7-6 lead at halftime. Tn ?l 1 * * Jin uic uuru quarter, an lniercepuon Dy Eddie Walls led to a TMI touchdown, and a 10-play drive capped off by an Andy Boone 35-yard field goal gave TMI an 11-point margin.TMI scored another field goal in the fourth quarter, making the score 20-6. USC JUNIOR VARSITY Head Coach Tim Clifton said the USC defense "played well.. We stopped them in the first half, but it was the third quarter that was the turning point of the ball game." Leading the USC defense were Reggie singleton, David Shively and Edward Eaves. Singleton and Shively both accounted for 13 tackles each and Eaves intercepted a Mike Dougherty pass to stop a drive early in the second quarter. The defeat was characteristic of a team that had only one day to prepare for a game. During the week, junior varsity players practice against the first-string varsity players to help the varsity team get ready for its upcoming opponent, Clifton said.
