Coke, Cardinal Servii By Jeffrey Black "Coke is it!" The slogan used by the Coca-Cola Corp., certainly applies to USC because Coke and Coke products are now the only canned soft drinks that will be sold on most of the campus. In a contract negotiated in mid-July by USC Business Affairs, Coca-Cola and Cardinal Service Inc., a vending food machine company, will be the only companies to provide their products in campus vending machines for the next three years, according to Don Miles, University Book Store director. Miles said that USC "can provide the best service possible to the academic community" by having only two major companies handle all beverage and food vending sales. But also pointed out that the contract can be nullified withi. 20 days if conditions set forth are not met. "We feel like these two companies will provide the best service and commissions to the academic community," Miles said. He added that the companies "went even beyond what I proposed." All machines will be new or less than four years old, and both companies will provide coin change machines at various locations where student traffic is heavy. Cardinal Service will provide many health food items in their food vending machines, in addition to furnishing microwave ovens in some areas and posting mix machines which serve drinks in cups with ice and hot drinks. Both companies will have employees available to service the machines six days a week.
