E C O C *am FWnpc GAM WnnMHHMHDDnnnMHB9BBMa'*Ha Garnet Tt Black Tec By MIKK LOUGH Sports Writer It was a ride that Richard Bell hopes to receive against Clemson. And with the enthusiasm displayed Saturday by the USC football team. Bell could be in for the ride of his life all season. The ride was courtesy of Bell's team, which carried him from mid field to in front of a microphone where he then spoke to the fans. "They're excited and so am I," Bell said following Saturday's Garnet-Black intrasquad scrimmage game before 5,000 at Williams-Brice Stadium, where the Garnet team won,14-10. "If I can just get one of those after the ni ? * ' ** ^leinson game, everyining will be all right," Bell told the fans after the game. "You can win with enthusiasm," Bell said to reporters afterward. "They illustrate it (enthusiasm) at every practice." If anything, though, the practice told observers one thing: the defense will be tough. Both defenses played tough, but the Garnet defense was particularly difficult to beat. Led by defensive tackle Andrew Provence ForJ^rook APARTMENTS Unique, spacious 1, & 3 bedroom apa townhouses. Kendrick Stafford was the Black's rushing leader with 11 yards in 10 attempts. "The defense did play well," Bell understated. "And I especially liked their getting the turnovers." The Garnet defense came away with four interceptions while the Black came away with one. The Black also recovered a Garnet fumble. "We want them to create situations by forcing other teams into more mistakes than before. I couldn't win today, though. The offensive line has some work to do. "But by and large, I was pleased with what I saw." Bell could not give any indications as to who would line up at quarterback yet. "We'll go into the fall still looking," Bell related. "The big thing is to find out how hard they'll work over the summer. "I was impressed with Bradshaw's drive," Bell said. Bradshaw, a sophomore from Spartanburg, led the Garnet 65 yards in 12 plays in the second quarter before taking it in himself from four yards out.
