Alumni Career Services Offers Help In Job Search By TAMMY BAUGHMAN SUft Writer Many USC alumni become bored with their jobs each year and need some sort of change in their career, according to Dr. John Elkins, director and counselor for Carolina's Alumni Career Services. The number of alumni who desire to change their careers has increased from 190 in 1978 to 808 in 1980-81. The ages range from 25 to 34 with 25 to 29 years of age being the largest. The interested alumni can receive skills in job interviewing, resume writing, job search techniques and individual counseling. A career library, an alumni referral service, and a test for career interest is also available. There is, however, a fee required for these services since there is such a large number of clients, Elkins said. If a client only wants to attend the career workshops the fee is $10. The fee is $25 if the client needs the seminars and other services. There are two types of alumni that come to the center to receive help, Elkins said. "The first does not know what to do. Either he has reached the highest point in his career, is burnout with his job, or just needs more money." The center helps these people find out who they are and what kind of skills they have learned a result of their job and major. "We help them find their interest patterns and teach them how to understand the world of working through literature," Elkins said. The second type of alumni the career service attracts is the alumni who has worked at a job for a while and decides he would like to get the same type of job but at another place. uThese people know what they want but just need some help and guidance in getting there. We try to help them achieve this through our workshops and referral service," Elkins said. . ? wwwwwimi.'H; <&*? :. .. mm y :?SS8Si: &$$?? i I ih M.r.iv.v.v..
