No Mor< By JIM LaFEMINA Staff Writer The illegal use -of university phones to make long distance calls has been corrected, said Debi Flippo, USC director of communications. "After we receive the bill for January and the first hall of February, there should be no more problems con cerning long-distancc calling," Flippo said. Southern Bell Public Relations Manager Dor Caughman said Wednesday he was "assured" in i meeting earlier Wednesda: that all of the phones wen fixed and could not be use* to dial lone distance calls. It was reported in the Feb 8 issue of the Gamecock tha approximately 400 phones 01 campus were being used foi out-of-state calls for whicl USC was being billed. Larry Huckabee operations manager for S.C General Services, told th Gamecock that Genera Services and Southern Be were in the process c negotiating terms for th reimbursement of a $29,0C bill whicn uenerai service had subsidized. "I expect that we wi receive their (Souther Bell's) decision in about tu or three weeks," Huckatw said. Huckabee also confirm* all the phones were fixed ai should pose no furthi problems. Free University is a committee of the Russell House University Union. It sponsors short courses for students, faculty and public, according to GlennGerman, chairman of the Free Unviersity Committee. Free Univerisity is not free, but it is inexpensive. A student pays $2.50 for each course unless it requires extra materials, German said. "The fee helps generate revenue to meet our end of the ! budget. Our biggest expense is advertising. The fee helps pay for that," he said. The biggest problem with Free University is not enough people know about it, German said. To solve this problem, the Free University Committee plans to sponsor a logo campaign next semester. "The logo we have now was designed in the 1960s when Free University was started at USC," German said. "We want to sponsor a contest to change the logo, if the money is appropriated from the Senate Finance Committee." i One of the students who signed up for shagging was Stacy I Oakhill. She signed up because "it sounded like fun. I didn't I mind paying the fee considering what it would have cost I somewhere else," she said. Katheryn Warr signed up for Hapkido. "I thought it would jy be a good way to lose weight and get some exercise," she ffi said. Jj Registration will continue today in the Russell House i lobby on the second floor. Anyone on a waiting list, or anyone who wants to sign-up for the first time, should go by there, German said. "Overall, registration went well," German said."Next semester, we hope to have more courses offered and more students involved." F PRINT SALE His week: Oniy life* - V B Fantastic Prices HL.
