Back To < When I wrote a column in high school (York (Pa ) 1:-\ . -i v/iuiiunc;, i aiways iiKea 10 make predictions. I would predict the boys and girls All-County basketball teams, the winners of college football bowl games, winners of local basketball games. I'd predict anything having to do with sports. Unfortunately, what I predicted in print was correct about 30 percent of the time. Whenever I'd make a prediction about our high school that a coach or olaver didn't like ? I told it like it was ? I'd havp to explain that it was just how I saw it. I always hoped we'd do great, but there were times when I just didn't think we would do so great. So remember, I call 'em as I see 'em, not necessarily how I want them. I will now resume my prognostication career on the collegiate level. There is a greater variety of topics to choose from and I can still dip into the pros. I am confident I'll improve. And heeeere they are: Jim Carlen will speak out very soon. After seven years here he can't just sit back and collect his $67,200 without saying something about USC. I'm sure he could carry on a colorful conversation about our delightful Board of Trustees. I know I could. Pam Parsons ? I know I said I hoped we wouldn't hear from or about her, but, well, give me a break ? will also come out and say something. Parsons would be good to talk to even if the events of the past few months weren't mentioned. She is a pioneer, for the most part, in women's sports right now and a superb coach. Terry Kelly will, after the athletic deprtment builds up the drama, be named USC head women's basketball coach. He will get a contract necessary to keep recruiting going for a few years and keep building a dynasty. That makes USC 3-0 in good moves concerning athletics since December. {? But next year, coach June Haines will coast, much like Foster will next year. ^ The NCAA championship will not be won by an ACC team, but by one of three teams: Tulsa, West Virginia (even though both were just upset) or ? this is a toughie ? For some reason, I don't think either will have an easy time getting through the playoffs. The way the ACC is, every game should go down to the wire. Maryland beat Virginia, but the Terps won't be a factor. I don't see anybody else really challenging. < ******** DOMINATE ********* YOUR OUTSTANDING TEACHER FOR AMOCO AWARD i a faculty member and a graduate teaching assii -I a. l_r Tl r !_?.? ... classroom leacmng. i ne rounaauon pi ty member who teaches undergraduate courses c npus is eligible. nd alumni are invited to submit nominations for t be in the form of individually signed letters, an ' must be received by March 8 to give the selection and faculty, time to review the candidates. ibers should be sent to Mrs. Ada B.
