While some people do go home or go to work students will be flocking to the beaches by the hundreds. The major popular beaches are expecting the usual crowds, and many of the night clubs and bars are offering special entertainment and prices for students. "All of the hotels that look sizeable enough have bars or night clubs," said Patrick Dewling, public relations manager of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce. The njght clubs, restaurants, pavillions and the variety of Deople draw students to Mvrtle Beach, where thev can forget school for the week. Pat Jackson, a senior Chi Psi, said he and about 35 other fraternity brothers are renting a house on Ocean Drive. "Last year was the best," he said. "At school you have to place your emphasis onstudying,but at the beach you have no responsibilities so you can just go and have a good time.'' Many students rent cabins at the beach rather than paying high nightly rates at hotels. The Sheraton at Myrtle Beach raises its rates an extra $25 on March 19th, making a onenight stay cost $60 for two people, with an additional $14 for other guests staying in the same room. Although the local authorities are "kind and understanding during spring break," Dewling warns students about 3(jccuuig diung uic uiiiuu ouanu. ne saiu ueuausu ui some accidents last year, police will be handing out speeding tickets more than ever before. "They use spring break to teach students about the rules for the summer season," he said. Fort Lauderdale is another favorite spot for students. Even though hotel prices are high, the beach is always packed at spring break. Sophomore Dana Lucas said, "Last year it was so crowded on the beach that you couldn't even find a place to lie down." Ellen Boucher of the Fort Lauderdale Chamberof Commerce said some of the popular hotels are the Holiday Inn Oceanside and the Stouffers Fort Lauderdale Surf. The Holiday Inn is already full for March 15 and 16, with rooms costing $95 per night plus $5 for each additional person.
