USC finished third in the N.C. State Invitational and is preparing for another tourney in March with the regionals slated to begin in April. Coach Drake attributes her team's improvement to her demanding coaching style. "Kids see a need to trainat the level that I train. Now they all have positive attitude to improve and become the best they can be." Tabbed as the leanest women's team on campus the volleyball team has acquired the nickname, "Lean and Mean." Although Smith's eligibility to play tennis is up in May, she plans to study in France for her final semester. Laura Bernstein, the freshman No. 1 player, also praised Kefalos, "he has really helped improve my game. We communicate well with him. He's also a friend. If we have a problem, we can talk to him. We're not scared of him." The team is confident making the top ten this year. Bernstein said, "I predict we'll finish aroung fourth or fifth."
