Under Kelly's coaching, the team went 14-6 and with the 6-0 start under former coach Pam Parsons, are 20-6, a truly startling mark considering what the team has been through. The Lady Gamecocks are 13th in the nation and Thursday night, take on 4thranked Old Dominion in Virginia. Then the team travels to East Carolina and finishes the season on the road against 9th-ranked North Carolina State. Before the Lady Gamecocks take on Old Dominion Thursday, Kelly should be offered the head coaching job for next year. The offer would be both deserving and a boost to the former Tennessee Tech assistant coach before the big game with Old Dominion. It would also inspire the team to finish the season their second- best record ever. Terry Kelly has already proved himself, even if the Lady Gamecocks drop their last three games. He has coached the team that beat 7th-ranked Rutgers, 12thranked Penn State, 16th-ranked Memphis State, 17th-ranked Kentucky, and Clemson. There are not many who could have adapted to the situation like Kelly has and it is to his credit that the team was able to hold together *1 and concentrate on basketball when the rest of USC was concentrating on the team's oroblems. ; Just as Richard Bell was selected ; in-house, Kelly should be rewarded i the same way. And the an1 nouncement should come now, not ; later. That way, recruitment could r be hastened. : Kelly should be given the > deserved confidence of the USC 3 athletic department to continue on for at least next year. Perhaps a ) two or three-year contract could be , arranged in the future, but for right i now, before Carolina plays at Old - Dominion, Kelly should be told how 3 much we all appreciate the outi standing job he has done. There are 3 not many others who could have 5 done the same. j\iao 1 Pi OUT MtPCStCH J Fjd SOME RAYS-.
