annual award for ar outstanding
paper written by a
woman graduate student.
Fifty dollars will be
presented for a paper

research. The paper must
have been written during the
last two years (not prior to
January 1980) while the
student was enrolled in a
USC degree program. All
nominees must be currently
enrolled as USC students.
Nomination folders must
include: 1) a copy of the
paper bearing its title but not
bearing the student's name,
2) a detachable cover sheet
including the paper's title;

A group of USC history
students has shown that S.C.
has many post-Civil War
buildings worth preserving.
Last fall nine graduate
students in Carolina's applied
history program spent
four months in the Fairfield
County seat of Winnsboro
researching, describing,
photographing and
cataloguing 109 historical
buildings dating from 1770 to
1930.
"One of our major conclusions
was that the
majority of these buildings

Civil War and possessed
much architectural interest
